Hopi Jewelry by Anderson Koinva

Featured Artist See also: Wilson Jim

Anderson Koinva was born March 8, 1956 on Shongopovi, Second Mesa. At a very young age, he was already artistic in drawing and carving kachina dolls in remarkable color and detail. Anderson completed high school and later married Berna Dawahoya who is the daughter of master silversmith Bernard Dawahoya. Anderson started a Kachina Ornament Collection in 1985 but later started jewelry making with his father-in-law Bernard. Anderson uses Bernard’s technique and designs of the over-lay jewelry.
You can always point out his work by the boldness of the designs and the formation of the piece. His hallmark is a sun forehead and snake, representing his clan.
